2.   New!  The Old Cardboard Magazine

Our most exciting news this month is the announcement of the launch of Old Cardboard Magazine--the hard copy companion to Old Cardboard eNews and the Old Cardboard website. Old Cardboard Magazine is published quarterly (four issues per year) beginning with the Fall 2004 issue (Issue #1). Sign up now and become a Charter Subscriber (and first issue is free!) for the newest and most comprehensive resource dedicated to the vintage baseball card hobby.

As a Charter Subscriber, the very first issue of Old Cardboard Magazine is yours for FREE. Your one-year subscription of four additional issues will extend through Issue #5 (Fall 2005). To qualify as a Charter Subscriber, your order must be among the first 250 paid subscriptions.

Each magazine will focus exclusively on baseball card sets produced through the first half of the nineteenth century. It will include detailed articles and stunning full color images of many of the rarest cards in the hobby.

The cover (above) and a preview of some of the articles planned for the inaugural issue of Old Cardboard Magazine can be seen below.

Your subscription will help support the vintage card hobby as a whole, and will help Old Cardboard continue to deliver top-notch information on vintage baseball cards and memorabilia. Because it costs more than twice as much to produce an all-color magazine as one in black and white, our $23.50 subscription cannot be beat. To order yours right now through PayPal, just visit https://www.oldcardboard.com/subscriptions.asp

3. OC's featured Set of the Month

Our Set of the Month for July is the Babe Ruth Flip Movie" set produced in 1932 by Wheaties brand cereal. With just one "card" in the set, it represents one of the earliest products in the company's long association with baseball.

The Ruth Flip Movie will be detailed in an article in Issue #1 of Old Cardboard Magazine, with a full checklist of frames. A little known feature of this flip book is that each frame contains a caption with a different batting tip--said to be the advice of the Babe himself. The checklist in the magazine will include the full text of the Babe's advice found on each of the 24 frames in the movie. The flip movie can be viewed from beginning to end in its full animated format here. Key features of the set are seen at:

4.  Floorplan of National Convention in Cleveland July 21-25

Here is a very rough sketch of the floorplan of the National convention. Old Cardboard will be at table #2048 -- be sure to come say 'hi' and take a look at the new magazine!

(editor's note: the floor plan graphic is no longer available)
