2. 2012 National Pictorial Re-Cap

Entrance to Baltimore Convention Center
For many vintage baseball card collectors, the National Sports Collectors Convention is the highlight event of the year. The "National," as it is most often called, provides an annual gathering place for hundreds of vintage baseball card hobbyists along with thousands of collectors of memorabilia and newer cards of all sports. And despite a sagging economy, there seemed to no lack of enthusiasm among all who attended.

Old Cardboard's coverage of the event coincides with our 100th consecutive issue of this eNewsletter, which began with the May 2004 issue. Three months later, we launched Old Cardboard magazine with a booth at the 2004 National in Cleveland. And we've renewed our committment to the hobby at every National since. It's been a fun ride and we've met many lifelong collector friends along the way.

As most eNews readers will recall, we put together a 22-minute video profiling more than seventy vintage collector's at the last National held in Baltimore (2010). Many of the collectors in the video also attended this year's event. The video can still be viewed in eNews76 on the Old Cardboard website. To supplement that video, we photographed many of the highlights at this year's convention. The best of these photos are now posted on the Old Cardboard website and organized into the following categories:

  • Overview of Facilities (inside and out)
  • Views of a few of the Exhibits
  • Snapshots of a few Vintage Collectors
  • The Heritage Live Auction (Thursday evening)
  • The Legendary Live Auction (Friday evening)
  • Gathering of Net54 vintage collector (Friday evening)

We hope that you enjoy the pictorial overview and look forward to seeing you at next year's National in Chicago.
