Although input for this section of the Old Cardboard website has been gleaned from many sources, much of the data is rooted in auctions conducted by Prestige Collectibles, a leading buyer and seller focused exclusively on Japanese baseball cards and memorabilia. The firm is based in Lauderhill, Florida.
The company's owner, Robert Klevens, has for many years put together detailed information along with high-resolution images for his auction lots. It is from these images and descriptions (along with many discussions with Robert) that much of this section of the Old Cardboard website has been based. We also want to express our appreciation to Gary Engel for his decades of devotion to the Japanese card hobby. As publisher of the ground breaking guide, "Japanese Baseball Card Checklist & Price Guide," Gary is recognized as a leading expert on Japanese cards. After evolving over decades of revisions and updates, Gary's guide is now focused on "vintage" Japanese cards (through about 1990). The latest version of the Guide (Second Vintage Edition, Version 2.1, released in 2019) can be purchased on the Prestige Collectibles website. Old Cardboard is also fortunate that Rob Fitts, a longtime Japanese baseball historian, has joined us as a contributor to the website and eMagazine. Rob has just published (June 2020) his most recent book, "(title to be added soon)". Rob's website can be viewed at robfitts.com. We are also very pleased to welcome Sean McGinty, a Canadian now living in Nagoya, Japan, as a contributor to the Japanese card section of Old Cardboard. Sean's blog, "Getting Back into Baseball Cards....In Japan" is now in its seventh year of operation and is an excellent resource for Japanese vintage card collectors.
