Hack Wilson (HOF) $880 This series of unnumbered blank-backed cards was produced in 1931 by Premier Malt Products, Inc. to promote the company's Blue Ribbon Malt Extract. The set of only three known baseball players is very rare and not listed in the American Card Catalog. Each card measures 5 x 7 inches. The three known players are: Hack Wilson (HOF) and Bob Smith (both of the Cubs) and John Kerr (White Sox). The card is in exceptionally high grade with sharp corners and no visible defects. ALSO AVAILABLE: The two other players needed to complete this three-card set are also available. The players are: Bob Smith ($530) and John Kerr ($530) Both are in EX-MT condition. Further details about the 1931 Blue Ribbon Malt set can be found on the Old Cardboard website.
Curt Simmons $575 This 1949 card is from a highly sought regional set of 12 members of the Philidelphia Phillies. The card pictures Curt Simmons, pitcher for the Phillies at the time. The 3-1/2 by 4-1/4 inch cards were actually stickers with instructions on the back to peal back the card backing, then apply to a clean surface. The cards were sponsored by Sealtest Dairy and classified as set F343 in the American Card Catalog. This example presents very well on the front and back. Details about the Sealtest Dairy set, including a full Checklist and Gallery, can be found on the Old Cardboard website.
$995 This 26-card game titled "Ask Me" was produced by Quaker Oats in 1934. Its trivia format poses questions (with answers) relating to baseball. Different questions are found on each side of the cards resulting in a total of 52 questions and answers. The 2-1/4 by 3-1/2-inch cards are nicely centered and have sharp factory-beveled corners. They are in pristine condition without any creases, stains, tears or other flaws (click to enlarge images for condition detail). Details about the Quaker Oats "Ask Me set can be found on the Old Cardboard website.
As part of the major promotional campaign in 1934, the Quaker Oats company partnered with Babe Ruth to produced this intriguing Ruth movie flip book. Under the title "Hitting a Homer," Ruth demonstrates his home run hitting prowess in a 32-page (frame) movie segment when flipped through quickly. When turned around and viewed from the other direction, it shows Ruth in a fielding mini-movie clip. Although well used by previous owners, this mini booklet is very secure with all movie pages fully intact. And while loose on front, the wrap around cover is well secured from the back (see hi-res images). Details about the "1934 Quaker Oats Ruth Flip Book can be found on the Old Cardboard website.
$310 This card is from a set produced in 1940 by Crowley's Dairy which still operates in Binghamton, NY, now under the name of Crowley's Food. The card is graded as a PSA 4 (EX-MT) with a very clean front and back.
Details about the Crowley's Milk set including a full Checklist and Gallery can be found on the OC website.
$310 This card is from a set featuring members of the Binghamton, N.Y., Eastern League team. The card pictures Jack Graham, who later played in the Major League for the Brooklyn Dodgers, the New York Giants and the St. Louis Browns. Most backs in the set are blank although a considerable number (including this card) were used by the company to distribute the cards to customers via US Mail. The "postcard" variations were not pre-printed with postcard formatting on the backs. This card is graded as a PSA Authentic with a very clean front and back. Other than the fact that it has been used as a postcard with "markings" on the back, the card is in EX-MT or better condition with very clean front and back. Note: some collectors (including myself) often prefer clean used postcards because they help date the cards and sometimes add interesting back stories.
Details about the Crowley's Milk set including a full Checklist and Gallery can be found on the OC website.
$1500 Spectacular Babe Ruth premium photo issued by Quaker Oats in 1934. The 8 by 10-inch photo depicts Ruth in a black-and-white swing-through batting pose along with a facsimile signature. The condition is very nice on the front with small tear in upper right border and a soft corner at top right. The back is clean except for a repair to the aformentioned small tear (see image enlargements for condition detail). Further details about this premium can be found on the Old Cardboard websie..
$310 Giants star pitcher Christy Mathewson is the only baseball player in this 32-card set of "Famous North Americans." However, today, his card is the key to the set. The cards were designed to be cut from a four panel group printed on the back of a Post cereal box. The offered card measures 2-7/8 by 3-1/8 inches. It was very carefully cut and presents very well. It has a very slight crease in the upper left which is noticeable on the back but can barely be seen on front (see high resolution images for condition detail). Overall, a very clean example. Further details about the Famous North Americans set can be found on the Old Cardboard websie.. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
