1903 World Series Game 7 at Huntington Ave. Baseball Grounds
$550

The first World Series of the modern era cast the Boston Americans against the Pittsburgh Pirates. This 8 x 10-inch scene from Game 7 was played at the Huntington Avenue Baseball Grounds in Boston. The grounds were demolished less than a decade later when the Red Sox moved to Fenway Park.

It appears that relatively minor flaws (stains, etc.) are in the negative. The News Photograph itself presents very well and contains no tears or other significant flaws (see scans). A slightly enlarged image taken from the photo was used as the centerfold for Issue #33 (Spring 2016) of Old Cardboard magazine.

The 1903 World Series was won at Huntington Ave. Grounds when Boston Pitcher Bill Dineen struck out Honus Wagner of the Pirates in the final game of the eight-game series. This compelling News Photo offers a rare and truly remarkable view into early baseball and World Series history.

BONUS: A copy of Old Cardboard magazine Issue #33 (with this image used as the centerfold) is included in this sale.

Circa 1930s Type 1 Card-Used News Photo of Jimmy Foxx
$875

This 5 x 7-inch Type 1 news photo image was used in the 1933 R305 Tattoo Orbit set as well as in both the 1934 R310 Butterfinger Premium set and the related 1934 V94 O-Pee-Chee series (aka "Canadian Butterfingers"). The two "Butterfinger" sets are similar but cut at a different size and have overlapping but different checklists. HOFer Jimmy Foxx is among the key cards in all three sets.

The very lightly stamped label at the bottom of the photo's reverse reads: "American League Service Bureau, Henry P. Edwards, Mgr., Straus Bldg., Michigan Blvd., Chicago, Ill."

A very clean overall photo with slight damage to lower right corner.

Further details about the R305 Tattoo Orbit set, the R310 Butterfinger set and the V94 O-Pee-Chee set are provided on the Old Cardboard website.

Circa 1936 Type 1 News Photo of HOFer Red Ruffing Used in 1960 Fleer Set
$390

The Associated Press image for this news photo from 1936 portrays Hall-of-Fame Yankees Pitcher and Pinch Hitter Red Ruffing. The image was used as Card #63 in the 1960 Fleer "Baseball Greats" series.

The 5-by-7-inch photo is in excellent condition with a very slight crease in the upper left corner (see hi-res scans). It has been certified as a Type 1 photo by PSA/DNA authenticators (Letter of Authenticity included in lot).

BONUS: As an added bonus, Ruffing's 1960 Fleer Card #63 in excellent condition (see image) is also included with this sale.

Further details about the 1960 R418-2 Fleer set are provided on the Old Cardboard website.

Circa 1920s Photo of Babe Ruth used in V117 Maple Crispette and W517 Strip Sets
$1,200

This small but compelling photo of Babe Ruth in a Yankee uniform is used on both the 1920 W519 Strip card sets and the scarce 1925 V117 Maple Crispette set.

The black and white photo measures just over 2 inches by 2-3/4 inches and pictures a young Ruth in a Yankees uniform. Labeling at the bottom reads simply: "Babe Ruth, Outfielder."

The known production date of the W519 set (1920) places the year that the photo was taken at exactly 1920, Ruth's first year with the Yankees.

Overall, this is a very appealing photo with a small crease in the upper right corner.

Further details about the 1920 W519 Strip set and the 1925 V117 Maple Crhispette set are provided on the Old Cardboard website.

Original Photo Artwork Used for Babe Ruth's 1931-32 Exhibit
$1,850

This is the original 7-1/2 by 9-1/2 inch sepia-tinted with matte-finish photographic artwork used by Exhibit Supply Co. in the creation of its 1931-32 Babe Ruth arcade card.

The much sought-after Ruth card featuring the bambino in a suit and tie was just one entry (and the only baseball player) in a set of 32 Movie Stars of the day. The resulting arcade card is considered to be one of Ruth's rarest Exhibit cards

Emanating from Exhibit's archives, this beautifully focused Type 1 photo shows generally mild evidence of handling (about EX) and displays very nicely. Cropping lines that match the Exhibit card are marked in pencil on the item's reverse, along with a sticker that attributes the photo to "Fanfoto Co., 33 Orange Ave., Long Beach, Cal." in the bottom left corner.

Further details about the 1931-32 Babe Ruth Exhibit are provided on the Old Cardboard website.
