$155 Headlined by Walter Johnson, this partial set (10/20) of the Washington Senators matchbooks issued in 1959 is highly prized among Senator's fans. The offered players are (from left to right) Johnson (HOF; key to set), Judge, Sievers, Bluege, Harrison, Milan, Griffith (HOF), Rice (HOF), Goslin (HOF) and Cronin. Complete MASTERSET of 69 High-grade Cards $1,490 Dizzy Dean not only highlights this 90-year-old series, he is only one of two non--Cubs players featured in the set. Altogether, the set contains 23 players, 21 of which played for the Chicago Cubs. The set was produced in 1937 by the Diamond Match Company. It contains matchbooks of 23 players, each printed in three different colors: green, blue and red. Offered is an exceptionally high-grade near impossible MASTERSET that includes 69 cards (all 23 players with each player represented in all three colors). The Dean cards shown here are representative of the EX-MT condition of a large majority of the cards in the offered lot. Of the 69 cards in the masterset, only 13 have moderate staining on the back -- mostly behind the striker area on one end. All 13 of these cards are of common players. $345 Offered is a partial set of matchbooks featuring 10 of 24 players from the series designated as Set U2 in the American Card Catalog. The set was produced in 1935 by the Diamond Match Company of New York City. It is the scarcest and most appealing of the handful of sets produced by the Diamond Company in the mid-1930s. Two Hall of Famers (Chuck Klein and Rabbit Maranville) are contained in this lot. All 10 players can be identified from the labeling on the fronts (see hi-res scans). The matchbooks are overall in above average condition with fronts printed in still vivid colors. All strikers are attached and intact. Two of the card backs display the familiar stain behind the striker, while two other backs show glue stains after being removed from an album. $15 Offered is a matchbook featuring Virgil Davis of the St. Louis Cardinals. It is from the U1 Silver Border set produced in 1934 by the Diamond Matchbook Company of New York. The matchbook is in very nice condition with striker intact (see hi-res scan). It is the red background variation.
