| The true Rookie Card of Satchell Paige originates from the 1939-40 Winter League season in the form of a Real Photo Postcard. Subsequently, a 1948 Cleveland Indians Team Issue photo of Paige was distributed at the ballpark that season. In addition, a much scarcer version of the previously mentioned issue was also produced during 1948 and utilized a "4-on-1" style picturing Cleveland player photos, including Paige. The following season, a mainstream card picturing Paige was included within the 1949 Bowman baseball issue. A much tougher mainstream issue also containing a short-printed Paige card was produced in 1949 by the Leaf Gum company. |
