Baseball Stars 2 Child's Notebook -- Ruth
$1,080

Very rare 1920s child's school notebook with a very young Babe Ruth printed on the cover. The title on the cover is simply "Baseball Stars" printed in all caps white lettering over a darkened panel near the bottom. Barely visable, also with white lettering, is a very lightly printed copyright that credits the image to "IFP? National Film Service" (see high-resolution scan for detail). The cardboard tablet back is blank.

The 6 by 9-inch tablet is in exceptional condition with all 32 lined pages intact and firmly bound. All pages are clean without any marks or other faults. Some creasing at the lower left and slight tear in the right border can be evaluated in the scan. A truly exceptional addition to any tablet or Ruth collection.

Further details about the 1920s Baseball Stars 2 Notebook are provided on the Old Cardboard website..

1910-1029 Base Ball Stars 2 Notebook -- Mordecai Brown
$1,125

This example is from one of the more famaliar notebook series that has a number of variations in design (black or white lettering, top or side binding, font size and style, etc.). The common thread is that all notebooks have "Base Ball [2 words) Stars" in fancy lettering near the top, and arched over the player's photo.

This particular example is very interesting in that about half of the pages are filled with very neatly completed algebra homework assignments. Further, each assignment is dated troughtout the 1910-1911 school year, which has helped collectors move the start date of the multiyear series to an earlier year than had been previously known. Still further, through research by an Old Cardboard reader, the student and original owner has been identified and independently profiled on the Internet, well over a century later.

The 6-3/4 by 8-1/4 inch notebook is fully intact with a strong stitched binding and all pages fully attached and intact. Ink stains at upper right and creasing in both outside corners (see hi-res scans for detail. A very appealing example with added historical perspective.

Further details about the Base Ball Stars 2 notebook series are provided on the Old Cardboard website, along with an article in Issue #29 (September 2006) of the Old Cardboard eNewsletter that pictures a homework page from this notebook.

Circa 1920s Base Ball Action Student's Notebook
$65

Little is known about this obscure student's notebook cover featuring an unidentified player. The colorized action photo in the middle is titled Base Ball Actlion, all inside an orange frame and wide black and white checkered border.

The notebook was originally owned and used by Alton Partridge of Smyrna, NY to neatly record his Spanish lessons. Measures 6-3/4 by 8-1/4 inches and contains about 24 pages with about 1/2 blank.

The notebook is complete with all pages securly attached. There is notable surface damage on the front and minor stains on the reverse (as seen in scans). Overall, an attractive "type" addition to a baseball notebook collection.

Circa 1917 Play Ball 1 -- Peckinpaugh (Mathewson, Alexander and Gowdy)
$490

From an attractive set of tablets issued around 1917, notebooks in this set are a little larger than average. They measure 8 by 10 inches and contain a blank spacer page at front plus fifteen lined pages. The covers feature one "main" player along with three other players in a smaller format across the bottom. This offered tablet features Roger Peckinpaugh as the enlarged player with Christy Mathewson, Pete Alexander and Hank Gowdy pictured below.

The century old tablet is in like-new condition with all fifteen pages without any markings and firmly intact (see hi-res scans). The front and back of the tablet are virtually flawless with no markings on the covers.

Further details about the Play Ball 1 notebook series are provided on the Old Cardboard website.
